Hi Name, Good to hear from you again. Question 1: The word "religion" means "to rebind" and to restore a person into fellowship with God. Exactly, I think the notes highlight how man in the garden tried to decide how he could continue the same relationship, but God acted accordingly to his principle of righteousness and man was caused to acknowledge firstly the break down in the relationship before he could be restored. Question 2: God determined that "the shedding of blood" would be the bases for forgeveness of sin. There were some good quotes used to support this Hebrews 9:22 & 1 Peter 1:19-20. The shedding of blood is consistent with the principle 'the wages of sin is death' Romans 6:23 and so this principle is caused to be acknowledged. Question 3: Paul points out that "without faith it is impossible to please God". I think this extends our understanding of God when we see how Cain and Abel acted, because more than just a ritual which can be prescribed, there must also be the attitude of willing service. God is looking for those that are willing to be restored to Him. This is also highlighted in John 4:23 "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him." . I copy in Joshua 24:14 (I don't know if you have a hard copy Bible) "Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth : and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. " The same principle is again applied. . . . the Bible a consistent Book! You may be starting to pick that up. Question 4: An offering was offered in faith by Abel and his faith was accepted in God"s sight. Faith was part of Abel offering because he had to believe that God would find it acceptable. Without trying to sound like I am repeating myself - The believer must serve God in the belief that he is able to save them. Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. " Question 5: "By faith Abel offered into God a more eccellent sacrifice than Cain". On the primary level, Abel offered what God required, Cain choose something different. Secondarily it was 'more excellent' because Abel's heart was in it as well as contrasted to the stubborn attitude of Cain Genesis 4:3-7. Question 6: Cain was the "seed of the serpent". Yes, Cain was the seed of the serpent. It is one of many bible "echo's" you can find. If you looked at 1 John 3:10-12 'In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.' The echo is to the enmity between the two classes identified in Genesis 3:15.
